If you have a degree in business (or equivalent), real estate experience, and a demonstrated interest in teaching and education, we want to hear from you.

The Course Specialist is key member of the Real Estate Division’s academic team. The position offers the opportunity to work with diverse participants in the real estate and educational community in a supportive and collegial environment. The Real Estate Division delivers a comprehensive range of industry-driven real estate programs and examinations that serve the needs of the real estate community locally, nationally, and internationally. This includes national education programs leading to designations with the Appraisal Institute of Canada, Real Estate Institute of British Columbia, and other professional real estate groups.

The Course Specialist forms part of the team responsible for the Division’s educational offerings, working with real estate stakeholders to ensure course materials and delivery methods are up to date, accurate, and the best quality possible. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Exercises judgment in maintaining the academic integrity of the Division's courses and examinations.
  • Develops course, assignment, and examination materials.
  • Provides academic expertise in the development and production of program offerings where expertise is appropriate.
  • Supports the Senior Course Specialist and/or Associate Directors in the management of the workflow of the Division's internal textbook production and delivery teams.
  • Hires and advises summer and part-time tutors on academic issues, provides tutorial instruction, and responds to student enquiries that go beyond part-time tutor capabilities.
  • Contributes to the planning and development of the Division's numerous programs and their related examinations, balancing the need for customer-focused student services with maintaining the academic and regulatory integrity and security of the programs.
  • Assesses program offerings.
  • Prepares and redesigns procedural guidelines and policies to meet educational and organizational goals.
  • Participates in ongoing evaluation to identify new and existing curricular requirements.
  • Contributes to the Division's complex public relations activities.
  • Acts as a content and academic advisor to a wide range of students and addresses academic policy issues with students by applying conflict resolution skills, an in-depth knowledge of program content and education technology, as well as a specific knowledge of the policies applicable to the Division's various programs and general knowledge of the issues related to the educational programs of regulatory organizations and professional associations.

The ideal candidate has post-secondary education in real estate, finance, or economics plus work experience in real estate or education. Excellence in communication and project management skills are a must.

Salary range: $72,000 to $87,000 depending upon education and experience. Plus, enjoy a generous work-life balance with UBC’s attractive vacation and benefits package, and a hybrid work schedule.
