Karl M. Ruppenthal (In Memoriam)

Professor Emeritus Karl Ruppenthal, a Sauder School of Business

Professor passed away in 2013.

At UBC, Professor Ruppenthal was the first Director of the Centre for Transportation Studies from its inception in 1971 until his retirement in 1983. Prior to joining UBC, Professor Ruppenthal was a pilot with Trans World Airlines for 10 years while teaching at Stanford University, where he was Director of the Transportation Management Program. He served as a consultant to a number of organizations, including the Canadian Ministry of Transport, Boeing, NASA, Peterbilt Motors and General Electric.

He was the author of a number of books and served as editor of the Logistics and Transportation Review.

Professor Ruppenthal will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
